PROJECT VISION
Salt Cottages brings new life to a property with a remarkable connection to the history of Mount Desert Island. The original cottages and cabin date back to the 1940s, carrying forward the character of an earlier era of summer retreats along the Maine coast. The property’s history is also tied to the former owner of the land associated with Cadillac Mountain, which was later donated for preservation, a connection that gives the project an even deeper sense of place.
That history helped inspire the transformation. Whitewashed walls and ceilings, simple cottage forms, and coastal details preserve the relaxed feeling of a traditional Maine getaway, while modern accommodations and shared spaces introduce a more refined hospitality experience. The result is a property that feels fresh and new while still honoring the story of the land and the generations that came before.
