Company History
Matthew Gurney, President of Coastal Maine General Contracting,
Inc. grew up in Central Maine. By age fourteen, he had developed
a love for carpentry, and did many small jobs for family and
friends. During high school, Matt had a job remodeling rental
properties, which lead to his desire to seek higher education in
residential construction and business. While in college, Matt
spent three years working with S.W. Cole Engineering, a firm from Augusta, Maine, where he gained experience in site work engineering for commercial buildings. After receiving his degree in business, Matt moved to Machiasport, Maine where he worked for two years learning how to utilize the design and drafting software that he uses for his projects. While being employed by Bayshore Steel Detailing, Matt also gained invaluable experience working on both small and large commercial projects. Before starting this general contracting business, Matt obtained much experience designing projects as well as helping to construct the commercial building that houses Downeast Baptist Church. In April of 2006, Matthew Gurney incorporated Coastal Maine General Contracting, Inc., and it is his desire to provide the Down East Region of Maine with unmatched construction service. He believes in creating work for local individuals and local businesses in order to promote healthy growth and expansion in the area.

Coastal Maine General Contracting, Inc. is the contractor of
choice for Downeast Maine. Our services include general
contracting work for residential and light commercial buildings
as well as remodeling, restoration, and additions. We also
provide design, drafting, architectural, and engineering services. Our customer base is made up of a wide variety of people: business men and women starting commercial projects, local businesses and schools needing various remodeling, land-owners seeking new residential construction, and homeowners desiring remodeling, addition work, and/or restoration.
Efficiency and Quality are two key areas in which Coastal Maine General Contracting separates itself from other builders. First, the area of efficiency, Coastal Maine General Contracting utilizes a highly advanced three dimensional modeling software. The software not only allows us to help customers develop a floor plan and elevations, but more importantly provides us with a 3D rendering of the structure. From the 3D model we can obtain an accurate and precise materials cut list, floor and wall details, roof details, and other valuable information pertaining to the structure. Coastal Maine General Contracting is a highly efficient builder due to the advanced computer software used to detail the project. This process allows us to utilize manpower and work through a complex project more efficiently by organizing it into smaller and simpler phases.
Secondly, Coastal Maine General Contracting strives for a high level of quality in all of its building endeavors. Going back to the 3D modeling system for a moment, the materials list, obtained from the 3D model, allows us to pre-cut materials in the framing stage which produces an extremely accurate frame to build upon. By starting with a quality built frame, we are able to provide a quality finish both on the interior and exterior of the structure. Materials also play a key role in producing a high quality structure, and we work together with our vendors and our customers to help them make the right material choices.
Lastly, and very importantly, people also play a vital role in producing a quality product and that is why Coastal Maine General Contracting employs individuals who take pride in what they do. Our employees perform most tasks from framing to finish, and we use highly skilled sub-contractors for any specialty items that may be required. From the basic laborer to the most specialized sub-contractor Coastal Maine General Contracting expects and provides top performance for our customers.
